Two nights ago I experienced my version of this: The way I described it is that it felt like a rubber band snapping in the middle of my head, there was this loud pinging sound but it felt like it was coming from the inside of my brain! There was the sensation of vibrating or reverberating inside my head but it only lasted for a split second and then it was over.

But it was actually terrifying, of course I thought yikes is this a stroke or something? It was like a neuron or synapse or something exploded; I was praying it wasn’t a blood vessel exploding and I was going to have a brain aneurysm and drop dead! It happened just as I was settling in to fall asleep for the night.

I also get very frequent sinus headaches and have sinus issues/sinusitis for 20 years! Feel great relief after finding this site!

There is definitely a connection to tinnitus. Mine is not severe and I hardly notice it even in the quiet of night. However, when these noises started, I started listening which made me more aware of the tinnitus. In the beginning, I would try to do what I could to keep the noises from happening. For example, I found I could tell when it was about to happen, and if I moved the position of my head, it would stop. But you can’t fall asleep if you are constantly moving your head. I did find if I put music on softly and focused on that rather than on the tinnitus, it was helpful.
Now that I know it is harmless, (like others I was thankful to find this site the night of the first occurance) I just let it happen recognizing it will stop and I will get to sleep. I have even tried to experiment and make observations. Friday, I went to hear my brother’s band. This is not something I do often because they rarely play in this area. I stayed up later than is normal, and the tinnitus was definitelly louder on Saturday. Around 5pm I was sitting in a recliner reading the paper, and the EHS occurances began. I was tired, but I was totally awake and reading. When I would listen to the tinnitus, there was no doubt that it led to an occurance. (Listening to the tinnitus does not lead to the occurances, if I am not in the middle of an episode.)
Other things I wondered about and noticed- 1. Is the jerking a startle response or part of the phenomena? It seemed to be both. I can actually feel the vibrations in my head and sometime down my arms to my hands with the louder noises. I think that the jerking that occurs in this case is part of the phenomenon. 2. Did I need to move my head to get it to stop? Sometimes. I can get stuck in a continuing electrical arcing if I don’t move my head. 3. About 90% of the time I hear the electrical arcing in my right ear, but sometimes in my left ear I hear a crack like a gunshot.
Now that I am just letting it happen, I find that if I have multiple occurances as I am falling asleep, I have interesting, multisensory lucid dreams. The upside I guess.

Im 28yr old male in great physical health but under a decent amount of stress for the last year, which was triggered by a few things. My fathers death, my uncles death and the fact that I was living in Tokyo during Earthquakes/Tsunamis. I left Tokyo and no longer live in fear of earthquakes but that had some lasting effect on my psyche. I also have a high stress career and have been concerned about sleep apnea (since I have dreams about holding my breath while sleeping). 4 months before this incident I had been complaining of some “brain fog” or lack of mental clarity. A doctor prescribed me Paxil to help with this. After taking 1 pill I experienced my first panic attack and discontinued usage– but still felt “brain fog”. That lack of mental clarity has continued for 3 months and I left Japan in the meantime (unrelated to any stressors, I just had to leave for work). The day before the EHS symptom occurred I had some pain in my jaw when chewing. The symptom of EHS for me could best be described as an electric arching sound (like a tesla coil) in one ear. I occurred during the transition from being awake to sleep as my mind was slipping into some vivid imagination. It woke me up, as it was very sudden, but I was unable to move for a few seconds. My fiance said that I made a squeeking sound, like air deflating from a ball. . and then woke up and asked her if she heard the same sound. I slept well the rest of the night after that incident, but I had some more vivid and colorful dreams than usual and I remember quite a lot of them. I woke up this morning and the feeling of “brain fog” I had been having was greatly reduced, Im wondering if this has anything to do with the EHS.

It sounds like a huge boom noise in my head accompanied by an electric jolt. Similar to a crack of thunder but in my head. It leaves me startled but unharmed and I fall asleep soon afterwards. It seems to happen when I am very tired mentally. On a couple of occasions it felt like my entire body was zapped with an energy burst. It felt like I shot 3 feet above my bed while horizontal. Certainly a weird feeling. I believe many people jolt a bit while falling asleep. I used to and still get that jolt. But I also get a jolt that feels amplified 20X. Anyway, it does not seem to be much of a hindrance to my life enjoyment.

Last night i tryed to go to sleep but every time i felt my mind sliping away into a dream state i was rudly interubted by a low to high ring/swish sound, usaly i open my eyes and move around befor the ring/swish gets too loud to wake my mind back up. Here is the scary part if i dont move around befor the swish gets to the high high point i become paralyzed, fallowed by sounds, and demoic voices. Panic sets in and i feel this fight or flit respon fighting to wake up. my head starts shaking and my neck spasmous jerking my head side to side where i finaly come too, knowing that its not over cuz im still awake. i tell my self im not crazy and my mind is just firing nerons ackwardly. trying to get sleep i know everything is ok. knowing the demoic voices came from my fear of the dark and closing my eyes. Thats why i sleep with a timer on the tv. i didnt sleep last night to soay the least, al stay awake all day today and later when im really tired my mind will slip in to a dream state so fast al finaly get some rest. and no i wasnt hearing people from anther relm but it was my mind was playing tricks on me. Thanks for listening to my story and if anybody can give me some feed back or simialr exsperiances it would be apreshated.

Had no clue what was happening. Like others it seems to happen right about the time I finally relax and start to fall asleep. What I have noticed more than anything is it happens more when I’m laying on my back than any other position. Strange. I have read some articles that called it “apportation”. The experience of going thru a vortex to another plane and returning…..not sure of that …but the article did explain the same symptons as EHD and that lead to my search and this site. Anyhow I know now it happens to other people so I can atleast talk to someone about it without them thinking I’m a nut.

It feels like I am dying. Most of the time it happens in stresful days or events. And I have difficulties to sleep because my brain cannot stop thinking. Does anyone knows this experience?

I jumped up yelling to my spouse did you hear that loud explosion someone must have lit dynamite. Since we do have someone in our neighborhood that has lit such devices over the years I naturally thought it. But then suddenly I realize how could I see a flash of bright light from the front of the home when our room does not face the front. The light was really bright and seemingly went out small to a large spread something you’d see I’d think in a shot gun explosion at night. None of our neighbors house lights were on then I really began to wonder. I’m thinking some of the explosions I have heard might have come from my head.

What do I have in common with the people here? I am very, very psychic so much that I know when a major natural disaster is about to take place. I also dream about them it’s like being there when I do experiencing the situation then it happens. We have under ground utilities here no transformers etc. Electrical energy i OFTEN touch light switches and they blow out immediately the bulbs. I’ve actually seen a blue flash when that happens re; my finger tips. I go through on average two to three bulbs a month due to it in some fixtures. I have been under stress this past few weeks. But it happens with or without stress I’m looking for common connections.
