logo_facebook.jpgFacebook is a social networking site with several thousands of applications that you can add to your profile. While some of the biggest stories in the news are about the future of this community site, I thought I should create a collection of useful applications from the field of medicine, science and web 2.0. Enjoy!

Thanks for the compilation. I was thinking also of trying to do something like this but I have yet to stumble upon useful applications. One that I like is Feedheads . Anything I share on Google Reader is tracked by Feedheads in Facebook and if any of my contacts is also using these I can see what they share. If more people would use this it could serve also to rank top shared science related content (ex. papers).

7. Bertalan Meskó - November 7, 2007

Wow, thanks for the great tip, Pedro! I’m going to give it a try.

8. Deepak - November 7, 2007

Yep Feedheads is one of my sources for finding things to blog about. Very useful

Hi, Bertalan. Great list. However, I wanted to ask about the Red Cross Facebook app. The webpage you linked to said it wasn’t built by Facebook, it was built by some group called FrozenBear (http://frozenbear.com/). I looked at their website, and it looks like it’s FrozenBear that will be donating the money, not Facebook. Do you know anything about this company?

12. Bertalan Meskó - November 8, 2007

You’re absolutely right, thank you for the notice! I made that change.

Unfortunately, I know nothing about that company or website…

I find Feedheads pretty useless. I don’t share individual items in Google Reader; most of my tags are public by default and I star the stuff that I find interesting. Feedheads (and similar apps) would be a lot better if they imported categories and/or starred items, rather than the shared category.

I’m presently a member of Facebook. May I know what group or any keyword must I enter in order to join you guys?

Just check out these apps or look for groups like Health 2.0 or Bloggers.
