The First Birthday of Scienceroll! November 17, 2007

Yes, the first as I hope there’ll be many more. It was the best year of my life and Scienceroll played an essential role in that. I started to blog a year ago with this post: My Hungarian scientific blog. In the first months, I wrote about popular medicine, but later I started to focus on two major topics: the relationship between web 2.0 and medicine and personalized genetics.
I feel really lucky to be a part of this process, the digitalization of all sciences. I try to provide useful tips to physicians regarding the tools of medicine 2.0 and I also try to become a reliable resource for personalized genetics.
Of course, I’ve had some great mentors, masters whose help and advice helped me to write 575 posts. I’m thankful to all of them! Among others:
- Ves Dimov, the pioneer of web 2.0 and medicine at Clinical Cases and Images – Blog
- Attila Csordás, the biotech geek blogger at Pimm
- Hsien-Hsien Lei, the queen of genetic blogging at Eye on DNA
- Steven Palter, our favourite medtech blogger at docinthemachine.com
- MC , the king of references at Neurophilosophy
- Steve Murphy, the gene sherpa
- Walter Jessen from Highlight Health
Some facts and milestones on the long road:
- More than 400,000 total views (1103 views a day). More than 350 medical blogs link to Scienceroll.
- Me or my blog have been mentioned in Nature Medicine, Medscape, British Medical Journal Career Focus, British Medical Journal Student, Cell and Medical Journal of Australia.
- I’ve launched two blog carnivals: Gene Genie is dedicated to human genetics and personalized medicine, while Medicine 2.0 is devoted to web 2.0 and medicine.
- I got special mention in Medgadget’s Weblog Awards in January.
- I won the Best Health Blog category in Blogger’s Choice Awards this November.
- Some of my posts have been mentioned by Pharyngula, Blog Around the Clock, Medgadget, Neatorama, Mashable! and Read/Write web.
- I enjoy the support of HONcode, Healthcare Blogger Code of Ethics and DNA Network.
- I’ve hosted some editions of Gene Genie, Medicine 2.0, Mendel’s Garden and Grand Rounds.
- I’ve had several behind-the-scenes interviews with famous medical bloggers and others as well.
- I helped promoting the medical education in Second Life. I made a weblog for the Ann Myers Medical Center and I also tried to be useful for Jean-Claude Bradley in organizing the sessions of SciFoo Lives On.
- I made my Medicine 2.0 slideshow public and started to maintain a collection for posts related to medicine 2.0.
- I started a series on personalized genetics and hope to become one of the most reliable and useful resources in this emerging field of medicine. I also tried to convince you to donate because my dream is to have my genome sequenced.
That’s all, folks! I’ve made plenty of friends through my blogging works and I’ve been able to meet incredible scientists from all over the world. Thank you for your strong support and I hope you stay with me for the next year as well! I’m going to be here, that’s for sure…

Berci, you’re probably had the fastest rise to fame in the science blogging community. Congratulations!!! and don’t slow down

Happy blogiversary, Berci!
I have to agree with Steve … it does seem like it’s the other way around. Berci, you truly have become a resource for Medicine 2.0 and personalized genetics. Congratulations on all your successes!
One of the biggest strength of Berci is his Wikipedia background in terms of effective source collecting and entry editing and he was really able to turn this wiki-knowledge to a solid base of successful blogging. Do you happen to know any other good wikipedians turned bloggers?
Thank you all for the kind words! If just the half of what you’re saying is true, I should be really happy.
Attacs: I don’t know any other Wikipedians who blog about medicine.
Berci – congratulations and I look forward to another year of collaborating on useful/fun projects with you!
Congratulations! I have enjoyed reading your blog and look forward to many more.
Happy Blog-Birthday, you are an inspiration to all of us, Berci!

Thank you!
I hope you stay with me!
