Of course, I’m not moving to Los Angeles, just I tried to refer to one of my favourite songs from Robbie Williams (Hot Fudge). So I’ve recently got a visa for a year to the USA, which means now I can happily accept the kind invitation from James D. Westwood and Kathie Rose to attend The 16th Annual Medicine Meets Virtual Reality Conference taking place in Long Beach, California between January 29 and February 1, 2008.

MMVR is the premier conference on emerging data-centered technologies for medical care and education.

MMVR is an interdisciplinary, vanguard community of computer scientists and engineers, physicians and surgeons, medical educators and students, military medicine specialists, and biomedical futurists. At MMVR, developers and end users collaborate to design the next in medicine.

MMVR offers a critical review of current progress: from initial vision and prototypes, through assessment and validation, to clinical and academic utilization and commercialization. Extrapolating from the state of the art, MMVR examines and guides the future of healthcare.

National standards for simulation based medical education; surgical simulation; telerobotics; telemedicine; modeling; imaging and visualization in medicine, just to list some of the main topics the conference will focus on. Maybe, there is a possibility for me to be involved in the Salon activity.

After the conference, I plan to spend 5 days in New York (February 2 – 7), so it’s going to be a really long trip for me.

If you happen to be somewhere around Long Beach or New York that time and would like to meet a Hungarian medical blogger/geek/student, drop me a line.

Of course, I’ll blog live during the whole event. I’ve already bought my airline tickets, arranged some other things, the only task left is to finish my exam period in time…

Good luck to your trip, take a deep breath! You are on a familiar path Berci, I started with a 1 week U.S. trip this spring and now I’ve been living in the U.S. for more than 6 months. One advice: do not allocate to much time on blogging while you are at the conference, focus on the people around.
