You know well how much I support the tools and opportunities of Second Life in medical education. I will try to persuade physicians from around the world about the advantages of the virtual world during the Medicine Meets Virtual Reality conference in the last days of January. But here is an other conference, a virtual one:
The International Virtual Association of Surgeons (iVAS) is pleased to announce its inaugural conference. This will be held on 22nd April 2008, exclusively in Second Life.
The conference will be run in the same manner as a real-world conference, with key note addresses from internationally recognized leaders in the fields of surgical robotics, simulation and education. The editorial board consist of experts in the field from Imperial College London, Professor Ara Darzi and Professor Guang-Zhong Yang and Professor Blake Hannaford from the University of Washington.
The abstract call on surgical technology, robotics, simulation and education is primarily but not exclusively aimed at international surgical scientists. All submissions will be most welcome, and the deadline is on the 20th January 2008.
Join the The Virtual Association of Surgeons group in Second Life and visit their website for more information.

The Organizing Committee of MMVR 16 is proud to have Berci Mesko joining us in person at “The Salon” in our meeting in Long Beach, California, January 29-February 1, 2008. Web 2.0 technologies will be a major focus at this year’s conference so please join us through Second Life, the blogosphere or, better yet, in person! See you all soon…
Please make sure to get in touch with Dr Skip Rizzo. I believe he has a strop presence in MMVR conferences and better known in the world of VRT (virtual reality therapies).
oops I meant Skip has a *strong* presence in MMVR conference usually (at least a couple of years ago).
Ramesh–Skip and I are both faculty members at the University of Southern California and I’m very familiar with him and all the people at the Institute of Creative Technologies (ICT). I will certainly see him at MMVR. Please join us…one way or another!
Thank you, Greg, for the kind words! I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll also try to cover the whole conference here on Scienceroll…
