Interesting concept – I am looking forward to seeing how you do it and how it works out. The community building aspect is the most important (people have to get something out of participating, in addition to finding and meeting each other), but there is also an archival aspect: a carnival edition is a snapshot in time of what the blogosphere is saying on a topic, filtering out the rest of crap we post on our blogs in-between serious posts.

With carnivals the idea is to get the word out to as many people and audiences as possible. If you choose to stop the carnival in its original fashion, you will lose that extra point.

Great idea Berci! Is it possible to do both? Pipe the RSS feed from the Microcarnival into the FriendFeed room? The FriendFeed Comments WP plugin would allow you to display comments made on FF on the Microcarnival.
