Ivor Kovic informed us about the iBreath Alcohol Breathalyzer, that combines iPhone with an alcohol breath test. Undoubtedly unique idea.








This kind of bothers me. How many teenagers are going to have a “highest blood alcohol level” contest. The I-phone is a lot more readily available and “hip” accessory to carry around than a $40 handheld breathalyzer for Walgreens.
Here there is law you can’t drink anything before you drive. Any detection of alcohol is enough to get a ticket. It is a very useful law that avoided a lot of accidents, but many people would want to know if they can drive some time after they had their drink. So may be this breathalyzer could help with that.
Even in places where there is not this specific regulation, it could be used to know if the person is able to drive, to know how much alcohol they had drunk. But I don’t know about the accuracy of this test in this use, because it only detects the amount of alcohol but of course it can’t measure the effects on the nervous system… Probably not very acurate, but could discourage some people to drive drunk…
