I follow more than 570 users on Twitter that leads to more than 100 new tweets an hour and I don’t have hours a day to check all the messages. Co-bloggers frequently ask me how I can follow all of them efficiently. Well, I have a few tips on this and feel free to share yours with us:

  • Tweetdeck: The best tool to organize your tweets. I created a Health 2.0 group to filter the tweets of the users who are writing about medicine or health 2.0.

tweetdeck

  • Twitter Search:  I always do a search for a few keywords to find new people twitting about my field of interest.

twitter-search

  • Twilert.com: It works like Google Alerts which means it lets you receive regular e-mail updates of tweets containing your keywords.

twilert

  • Filter by replies: It’s easy to discover ongoing discussions as people reply to each other so sometimes it’s enough to follow the buzz. Omnee helps you with it:

  • Tweetree: It puts your Twitter stream in a tree so you can see the posts people are replying to in context.

tweetree

  • Tweetscan: You can get updates via e-mail, RSS and scan up to five phrases for daily or weekly delivery.

  • Twitscoop: Insert a twitter username or keywords in the search box to track a conversation, topic or conference.

twitscoop

  • Power Twitter: A Firefox Add-on that integrates search, images and videos into you stream.

power-twitter

  • Friendfeed daily best: I subscribed to many of my Twitter followers on Friendfeed as well. So the Friendfeed daily best feature helps me filter the most valuable discussions.

  • FFholic.com: A collection of the most discussed, commented, liked, etc. Friendfeed messages.

Thank You Berci, for the useful tips and the nice overview.

I know several of these tools, but I just wonder whether you use them all in parallel? They seem to overlap a lot. For instance in Tweetdeck you already have a search function incorporated, so why use Twitter-search as well? And Ttwilert does seem to do a similar thing (via email).
Powertwitter combines features of tweettree and other tools. So do you use them all or do you just give an overview, so we can choose what appeals the most?

And how do you set up a friendfeed daily best? what does daily best mean?

(I now I created a frienfeed account earlier on and people have subscribed to it -in vain- ;) , but I lost my login details…

Of course, I don’t use all of them. What I use regularly:

- Tweetdeck
- Friendfeed daily best
- Twilert
- and Twitter search

On Friendfeed, after logging in, you will see this on the right:

View: Standard – Real-time – Best of day

Just click on Best of day, that’s all.

Thank you for your comment!

Great busy trying them and selecting the most usable, thanks Dr Shock

O.k. that clarifies a lot. Thanks.

By the way, don’t you use the search function of Tweetdeck? You get an extra column next to your groups (replies, favs and other).

Excellent post! Been using Friend Feed a lot myself to filter and get to the core of what I feel I need to see. Love Power Twitter add on for Firefox too.

Being I live in Outlook, I also use Out Twit:
http://www.techhit.com/OutTwit/

That site also has a similar add on for Facebook too, so as long as I live in Outlook, the 2 are must haves for me! You may notice that most of my updates are done via Out Twit.

Here’s another review as well with new beta functionality and nice reporting features.

Off the path a bit here, I also use Xobni with Outlook too and it will index all of my tweets too.

When you live in Outlook, these may be very useful and there’s also an add in for Linked in too, so yes, got all of them:)

I’ve already talked with you about this problem on a twitter, but it’s nice, you wrote about it in on your blog as well (twitter is a little bit too short for details ;-) ). The idea with building your own group on TweetDeck is really great, because it lets you follow a disscusion you’re really interested in, without canceling other tweets

I was using twhirl as a client. I find that with TweetDeck Twitter became a more versatile tool! The problem is always time efficiency indeed!

What a great list. I simply couldn’t manage my feed without Tweetdeck, it keeps me organized and I set up a search to watch my target keywords. Twilert and Omni were new finds, will get over to check them out now. Thanks!
