My friend, Francisco Grajales III shared this great video with me. Hans Rosling has something very important to say about H1N1:

13 days H1N1 Tuberculosis (TB)
Death 31 63 066
News 253 442 6 501

Check his wonderful TED presentation out as well.

I found this post very interesting, although I disagree that it was over-hyped. I think you have to give recognition to the fact that this was something new that people had to take notice to, so a lot of media coverage was warranted. Also, notice the fact that there were few reports dealing with TB, but many deaths. Reporting is a preventative measure, but he makes it sound as though it needs to be reactive. All of the information made available about swine flu prevented many contractions of the virus as well as many deaths from it. Maybe if the underdeveloped world (with all the huge blue dots) could manage to inform their citizens as well as the west, they’d be in better shape (not saying they are at fault, I realize my claim requires resources that they simply do not have).

Bertalan: really, that’s as you think. We think, too, the emotional management of the so called ‘new influenza’ is very important. The next post in our web is in spanish (we are in Spain), but its clear: post en Synaptica

And, of course, congratulations for your blog! Amazing, clever, clear, cool… great!
