The European video carries a great message – with some rudimentary cartoons, emphasizing chiefly the role of the Internet in communication. While truly cheap full DNA sequencing is still perhaps a year away (presently Complete Genomics’ “list price” is $5,000), the “DNA Day” fire-sale of 23andMe on the 24th of April, offering DTC partial-check of DNA for 148 conditions for a stunning $99 demonstrated in one day (gone) that there is a massive demand out there. One obstacle is obviously the price – and the market is extremely price-sensitive (especially in a recession). The othe obstacle of partial or full DNA interrogation has been, that the consumers haven’t been empowered to use raw DNA data in their daily activities.
