The Center for Disease Control and Prevention published the newest the Health Communicator’s  Social Media Toolkit (here is the PDF version).

A guide to using social media to improve reach of health messages, increase access to your content, further participation with audiences and advance transparency to improve health communication efforts.

The guide is truly fantastic, detailed, comprehensive.

social networking sites have gone far beyond socializing. it is now the center of information exchange. you can share your thoughts or a newly information you just read. with this you can exchange messages regarding health concerns. what a great innovation technology brought us especially in the health field.

I have to say though that Facebook is in the center all of this which is a bit of a concern given their reputation for their privacy record.
