Figurerunning was launched by two Ducth runner geeks and through this, you can actually draw figures on the map when running by using their smartphone application.

The developer team that designed the semantic-like clustering search engine of Webicina.com created another engine that was featured in a competition initiated by the National Library of Medicine.

NLMplus ( http://nlmplus.com) is an innovative semantic search and discovery application, developed by WebLib LLC, a small business in Maryland, in response to a challenge contest by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to make use of NLM’s vast collection of biomedical data and services for the benefit of the Library’s diverse worldwide user communities.

A few weeks ago, I talked about how the first Hungarian virtual cardiology consultation would be organized by Webicina.com and finally it turned out to be a really successful event. We hope to organize even more similar events in many topics!

On the 29th of September, between 16:00 and 18:00 Central European Time, two cardiologists answered the questions of patients in the virtual world of Visuland.com. They were able to enter the virtual realm through this link. Basically we wanted to give readers and patients a chance to ask questions, meet specialists, meet fellow patients in a 3D environment that is very easy to handle.

Scientists, artists, writers, and philosophers once flooded the cafés of Vienna and Paris. These days, you’ll likely still find these same types in the cafés, but instead of getting into heated political arguments or passionately espousing their artistic beliefs, they’re absorbed by their laptop screens. Don’t let the silence fool you, though. They may very well be engaging in comparable lively discussions and exchanges of ideas. They could just be doing that in a Google+ Hangout.

In an effort to address information inequality around the world, the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) will now be offering free subscriptions through the HINARI initiative to developing countries in South America, Asia and Africa.

Case Presentations on Google+? October 23, 2011

I’m still trying to find ways to use the really professional network, Google+, in medicine and I asked my community a few days ago about that:

I haven’t asked you about that for a while, but how have your habits been changing in the last few weeks on Google+? Do you use it more than Facebook? For me, it seemed to be a fantastic professional network, but still have many more peers on Twitter and Facebook. What to do?

I got some interesting opinions and ideas, but a French colleague  told me French doctors actually perform case presentations in private ways. They upload information about the case, discuss it with other peers and get to a final diagnosis. Based on the very simple privacy settings of Google+, it can be useful for such purposes. Anyone else with similar experience?
